The National Bicentennial medal
Does anyone here have this medal in gold with wood box and certificates? I have one, but no paperwork with it - which is so strange because I always save all the papers that came with a mint issue. I did an eBay current and completed search, and found one listed as .37 oz gold in a wood box which sold for $295. Also in that search I found some gold plated ones but in paper boxes. My questions are: If you have one of these with paperwork, could I get a scan of your papers? And are the gold plated ones a different size than the gold ones? Thanks so much.
I have pictures but don't know how or where to get the URL. Most picture posting sites I go to, just ask for a search. |

Re: The National Bicentennial medal
Gcubed - Thank You So Much! I printed out the COA, and was delighted to know that the gold plated medals are larger - 1 1/2", so can't be confused with the smaller gold one. But reading this COA, I cannot find where they specify the the weight of this "solid gold" medal. I'm curious how the eBay seller I mentioned above determined it to be .37 oz. Thanks again.

Re: The National Bicentennial medal
trust me is .37 troy pure or .413 oz total weight 90% gold. I've got a couple myself and it weights at 12.8 grams on my digital scale. The pure melt now would be roughly $330, so $295 is a smooth deal. Seems to be going usually for melt plus few percentages on ebay. When I get home, I'll get a scan of whatever papers I have. Send me a PM so I do not forget.
Hope it helps |
Re: The National Bicentennial medal
The medal had come only with the stuff that GCubed has already posted, a six small page fold-out. I am looking to see if I can find Public Law 93-179 as it should have the purity and the weight. If anyone has access to a law library ....
I weight it again and is between 12.8 and 12.9 grams on my digital scale Hope it helps |
Re: The National Bicentennial medal
Thanks!so much. I appreciate your time spent on this.
I printed out that fold-out and now have it with the medal. Very strange they didn't give the gold weight. I'm thinking this will be a problem to sell if the SHTF. I'm staying with coins that show the metal content and/or those listed in the Red Book. |
